The Alps Challenge Road Bike Tour give you the possibility to climb the famous italian mountain passes, starting from a nice place, from the best side of the Como Lake, Bellagio.
During the days ride, you can test yourself, your skills, to gain the most popular destinations for all cyclists.
Famous climbs, like the Muro di Sormano – Wall of Sormano – with an average gradient of 17% and a maximum of 25%! The Ghisallo, where on the top, we can recognize the famous Madonna del Ghisallo Church. The shrine of Madonna del Ghisallo contains a small cycling museum with photos and artifacts from the most famous cyclists. Then Culmine di San Pietro pass, from both sides, to continue to San Marco; and again, the Mortirolo, the Gavia from both sides, and the Stelvio from all the three sides… Vivione, Presolana, Zambla pass…it is enough for you?. All of them are part of the history of Giro, it is a tour for very keen riders.

Tour Description Day by Day.
Day 1. Arrival.
On your arrival at the airport you will be meet by local guides team and transferred to your first accommodation, located in the town of Bellagio. Bellaggio is famous all over the world and it really deserves its excellent fame, Its picturesque location right on Lake Como branching in its southern arms, with the Alps visible across the lake to the north. It is the right place to prepare the spirit for challenges we are going to face during the week.
We will set some time aside to learn all about your week of road biking and fit the bikes.

Day 2. Bellagio Loop, Ghisallo and Muro di Sormano.
Distance 75 km • Total Ascent 1900 mt
Today we will ride two climbs, crucial to decide the winner of the autumn classic, the Giro di Lombardia and has often featured in the Giro d’Italia as well. This classic is traditionally the last of the five “Monuments” of the season, and also one of the last events on the UCI World Tour calendar. It’s the biggest Autumn Classic in cycling, its nickname is the Classica delle Foglie Morte.
We are saving the Ghisallo (765 mt) for the last climb and we have the time for a full visit. Before we have to conquer the Muro di Sormano (1124 mt). This climb is famous as one of the most severe of any road cycling race, with an average gradient of 17% and a maximum of 25%. The road up the climb, though famous in cycling folklore, fell out of use from 1963 to 2006 but after pressure from local cyclists it was restored.

Day 3. Bellaggio to Morbegno. Como Lake, Culmine di San Pietro, Passo San Marco.
Distance 130 km • Total Ascent 3200 mt
Today we are going to ride a challenge, conquering two mountain passes, both are part of the history of the Giro. After a short transfer by ferry from Bellagio to Varenna, a small stretch along the lake leads us to Bellano, from here we start to climb towards the inside, with beautiful views of the lake from above. We pedal along Valsassina Valley by a cyclepath. The ascent to Culmine di San Pietro (1258 mt) by narrow road and alpine views, immersed in the silence. In the second part of the downhill we ride into a beautiful gorge: Val Taleggio. Then we ride along Val Brembana, the landscape become more and more wild and alpine as we climb the majestic Passo San Marco (1992 mt). Another technical descent bring us to Valtellina – Farmhouse La Florida, a real farm but with luxury hospitality and beautiful spa.

Day 4. Morbegno to Bormio. Valtellina, backroads and cyclepath.
Distance 103 km • Total Ascent 1700 mt
We can ride all together along minor road and the cycle path of Valtellina. An easy day to rest after yesterday challenge and to be ready for tomorrow challenge. The route follow the Adda river valley, we can stop in nice and small villages for a coffe and a rest. We will follow the river till Bormio (1100 m asl).

Day 5. Bormio loop, Mortirolo and Gavia passes.
Distance 112 km • Total Ascent 3200 mt
It is the second challenge of the tour. We will approach the Mortirolo (1852 mt) with a warm up along minor roads, mainly down to Mazzo village. Thus is the classic side to climb the Mortirolo, it deserves respect, pace yourself because is going to be long day. Once on the top we can stop for a coffee and then all the way down to Monno. From here we ride along the valley, Val Camonica, Oglio river, till Ponte di Legno village. From Ponte di Legno we climb the Gavia, to reach the top at 2600 mt, and then down to Bormio. You will feel an hero, and you will always remember this great ride!

Day 6. Bormio loop, the Stelvio climb.
Distance 100 km • Total Ascent 3500 mt
Today mission is to conquer the Stelvio (2760 mt) from the two Italian sides and explore all its slopes. After the first climb we go down to Switzerland and Santa Maria via Umbrail pass. It is part of the 2017 Giro d’Italia. We stop for a short visit in Glorenza before the grand finale: the cima Coppi from the hardest side, climb from Prato allo Stelvio.

Day 7. Bormio to Schilpario.
Distance 118 km • Total Ascent 3500 mt
Leaving Bormio, we will climb the Gavia (2600 mt). It is another great ride, another big challenge. The route starts directly with the climb of the fearsome Passo di Gavia, once passed through Ponte di legno and Val Camomica, we will climb towards Aprica but then we turn to explore Alpi Orobiche. We will climb Passo del Vivione (1824 mt), it was on the Giro route twice, 1981 and 2004, when the route was exactly the same as our today ride. The climb is 20 kilometers long, the road winds for the first 15 km in the forest, through ancient villages, with constant slope between 6 and 8%. The last kilometers are the most scenic but also the most difficult, with constant gradient of 12%. The tranquility of the area makes it one of the most beautiful Alpine passes.

Day 8. Schilpario to Lake Como.
Distance 140 km • Total Ascent 3000 mt
Our final day is spent in the beautiful foothills to the north of Bergamo and Lake Como. The day will be spent on tiny back roads with stunning scenery. From the hotel a downhill bring us to the valley and we start climbing to conquer Passo della Presolana (1,297 mt). Going down we entry in the Serio valley. We will climb a pass that is in the history of the Giro: Passo di Zambla (1,238 mt). Then we head to climb again the culmine di San Pietro (1,300 mt) but on the opposite slope, that means from the beautiful Val Taleggio.
A grand finale for a great cycling holiday: from Varenna we arrive by a ferry journey across the lake to Bellaggio, let’s celebrate the success of the tour, with lot of good memories and laughs.
