The Wildest Sardinia
An Adventure through the Wildest Hearth of Sardinia Island.
We are very proud to present the Wildest Sardinia MTB Tour, a spectacular journey to discover the most beautiful and wild Sardinia.
Something between All-mountain and Enduro, this tour is designed for those who truly love mountain biking in all its aspects, to those who love nature, sport and fun, especially downhill.
The Wildest Sardinia MTB Tour offers us the opportunity to ride along one of the most wild and beautiful area of Sardinia. Our daily rides take us on a variety of terrains and types of trails, but mostly very rocky with loose surfaces. Flow single-tracks through pine forests during the Enduro race spot in Baunei, loose sandy dirt roads coming down, muddy undulating trails, fun loose stony descents from coastal hills. This tour is a perfect combination of ups and downs, always fun, challenging and demanding, but with the possibility of optional routes that can make the day more enjoyable, both physically and technically.
Guided by our Wild Trails Italy guides, this trip is designed to show you the best of Sardinia, test your biking skills and come away from Sardinia feeling even more competent and ready to tackle more trails.Booking Enquiries

Tour Description Day by Day.
Day 1. Arrivals and transfer to Oliena.
On your arrival at the airport you will be met by the Wild Trails team and transferred to your first accommodation. We will set some time aside to learn all about your week of mountain biking and fit the bikes.
Hotel in Oliena.
Day 2. Oliena to Orgosolo, “ The Supramonte ”.
Distance 43 km • Total Ascent 1250 mt
We start our first cycling day with something pretty tough, not because of the distances, but in terms of terrain. Almost all day on loose limestone rocks. We start to climb on dirt road, in the direction of Monte Corrasi, the majestic limestone massif overlooking the town of Oliena. After a few kilometers we leave the main track and we enter on the dense oak forest through a path with some technical stretches; after a long up and down we are back on dirt road. A few more kilometers of steep climb, and we reach Punta Solitta, the real entrance to the famous Supramonte of Oliena.
Now we have 25 km of semi-flat path, but with many sections quite technical because of the rocks and stones. You can test your skills or just do a bit of portage. The landscape all around us can be described in only one way: Wild! We can stop to admire Su Sercone, a huge deep limestone sinkhole: 200 meters deep and more than half a kilometer wide. At the end of the day we reach the forest tracks of Funtanabona, and from here 8 km of asphalt take us to our hotel where we will enjoy the hospitality and great food of this area.
Hotel in Orgosolo.
Day 3. Orgosolo to Villanova Strisaili, via Fennau Valley.
Distance 50 km • Total Ascent 1200 mt
The distance today is a bit longer, but with easier terrain and smoother trails. We retrace our steps up to the forest of Funtanabona, until we reach the slopes of the Monte Fumai, a spectacular limestone formation, placed on top of a steep hill. We continue our journey on a mule track up and down with a few challenging sections and some technical descent. From the valley we start a long climb to conquer the top: Sa Pranedda, 1300 meters above sea level, it offers us a truly magnificent landscape.
Now we have the long and very fast descent that takes us into the magical valley of Fennau. Usually, on this side of the mountain you can spot the mouflon. We cross the valley to its entire length in the easy climb, till 1000 mt asl. 8 km of single tracks, slightly downhill along the Flumineddu valley. Rich dinner of ogliastrine specialties topped with the excellent local wine. The profile shows the hard op option with Monte Olinie climb.
Hotel in Villanova Strisaili.
Day 4. Villanova Strisaili – Punta La Marmora Loop.
Distance 64 km • Total Ascent 1600 mt
Tough day! No pain, no gain! Today we will climb the Gennargentu, the highest mountain of Sardinia; We will conquer first Bruncu Spina (1828 mt) and then Punta La Marmora (1834 mt). After a warm up section we start the long climb, on quite smooth dirt road. From here, we go up first on dirt road, then a short stretch of asphalt, and finally the mule track until we reach the altitude of over 1800 mt. We are in Bruncu Spina, now, things gets tough – when the going gets tough, the tough get going. Technical ridge trail, a bit of up and down, some short section of portage and here we are, at last, on the top of Sardinia: Punta La Marmora.
Breath-taking views, great satisfaction and strong sensations. We lower the saddles and we face the long path that will take us back to Villanova Strisaili; the path is pretty tough, with many stones, some steep section and technical steps and wherever we look, the scenery is spectacular! We lose more than 1000 mt of altitude in about 11 km! Full of adrenaline we are reaching the end of the stage.
Hotel in Villanova Strisaili.
Day 5. Villanova Strisaili to Santa Barbara.
Total distance: 60 km • Total ascent: 1300 mt
Probably the most beautiful stage of our tour; we start riding along Flumendosa lake, on a mule track – some short but challenging climbs. Few kilometers of climb on asphalt and then 10 min of portage to reach the majestic limestone heels of Perda Liana (1200 mt) which offers a 360° view of the surrounding landscape. From the top we set off down a steep and winding single track for the happiness of the wildest free rider.
We reach the beautiful forest of Montarbu and the legendary Ermolinos single track: some fast section and some technical steps, all surrounded by dense vegetation ponds and waterfalls that make this place a magic location. After a break at the forest station, we continue our day, a long up and down into the forest, till the area of Tostoinos, a rare example of a former sheepfold. Now we have a 20 minute portage to reach the legendary Trail of the Eagles.
5 km of pure fun on a single track that winds along the edge of the limestone cliff, initially flat, then drop in a decisive way, with some technical passages in the deep valley. Our accommodation is in the middle of Santa Barbara’ s forest.
Hotel in Santa Barbara Forest.
Day 6. Santa Barbara to Santa Maria Navarrese.
Total distance: 45 km • Total ascent: 800 mt
After yesterday’s big challenge, today we have a less demanding ride. From the forest on the plateau, we will reach the limestone mountains close to the coast at the end of the day. We start pedaling through the oak’s forest, then down to Villagrande Village, on the slope of the plateau that slopes towards the sea; the Arbatax’s gulf in front of us. From Villagrande we follow an abandoned tarmac road, staying always at high height, a kind of balcony on the valley. It was the main road till the flood of the 2004. Now it is collapsed in few sections but still rideable. This road intercepts a beautiful single track, called Sorberine.
A funny downhill single track, it is 5.6 km long, till the bridge at the valley. The trail is mostly easy and flow, some rocky sections, tight bends, and steep steps, where the XC bikers will proceed on foot while the Enduro bikers will find something to test their skills. From the valley we follow country side’s road towards the coast. We can choose to reach Santa Maria Navarrese, just on the beach, or go directly to the hotel in Baunei village, on the west side of the limestone mountains, overlooking the valley from 480 m asl. In the past it was only a village of goatherds and shepherds and only recently has developed a tourism on the coast, thanks to the hiking routes and free climbing activity.
Hotel in Baunei.
Day 7. Baunei Loop – Enduro Championship route.
Distance 45 km • Total Ascent 1600 mt
The day is not too difficult, but certainly delivers lot of fun. We leave Baunei heading to north on SS 125, fairly gradual ascent, no traffic, great view of the deep valley. We reach the plateau of Genna Sarbene and from there we turn towards the valley, to ride on very long single track that, in almost eight kilometers, loses 550 meters of altitude. First fast and flow, very funny, and then radical and technical with some passages on stones and rocks. Once in the valley, one of the creek in the area gives us a magnificent spectacle! A number of small canyons, ponds and waterfalls between massive granite rocks. After a break we continue our journey in the valley along a dirt track, little up and down not too demanding, surrounded by green lush vegetation. We arrive in the village of Triei, and from here, after a coffee we return to Baunei through a climb of about four kilometers relatively steep, but with easy surface.
Hotel in Baunei.
Day 8. Baunei – Cala Sisine – Baunei.
Total distance: 54 km • Total ascent: 1200 mt
Another loop from Baunei, so we don’t have to pack. A short transfer to reach the top of the Golgo, a wide limestone plateau. We unload the bikes and start our ride, a long dirt road, uphill and through the vegetation. After a section of asphalt we reach again Genna Serbene, but this time we ride towards the coast. We continue up on dirt road to reach the altitude of 1000 meters, a few kilometers on flat with a large and wild landscape, and then we start our downhill on a mule track with several rocky stretches, till the beginning of the canyon known as Codula di Luna. From 650 meters up to the sea level in 6 km, an the alternation of technical stony sections and in quick strokes in the woods. we will do some break to enjoy the many wonderful view. The blue coast appears on our left, behind the white impressive rocks and the lush vegetation.
The last kilometer, a bit hard because of rocks and stones, and finally arrive in the beautiful beach of Cala Sisine, a magical bay nestled between limestone cliffs and a green and blue sea that makes it one of the most beautiful coves of the east coast and probably of whole of Sardinia. We take advantage of the restaurant next to the beach for a break and then continue our journey to gain the 500 meters of altitude that separate us from our arrival point.
Hotel in Baunei.
Day 9. Genna Silana Pass – Gorropu Canyon – Cala Gonone.
Total distance: 40 km • Total ascent: 1000 mt
After breakfast we have a short transfer to reach Genna Silana pass. A wonderful landscape opens in front of us. We are 1000 m asl and we can see all the Oddoene valley and the Gorroppu Gorge in front of us – with its 500 meters walls, it is one of the deepest gorges in Europe and for sure one of the most spectacular. We start riding down from the pass. Majestic oaks accompany us in the first pleasant stretch of the descent that leads to typical shepherd’s huts. We carry on riding on the steep path, with sharp bends and through strawberry’s tree bushes. Further down the path cuts a steep scree slope, approaching the rocks.
The descent continues steep to the base of the wall’s Gorge: in 4 km we have lost 650 mt. We can glimpse through the vegetation on the river bed Flumineddu and entry into the gorge of Gorropu. After a short visit into the gorge, we ride along the valley, following the river till the bridge. From here we will climb to reach the ridge that separate us from the coast. Finally, the last downhill. We are into the wild, surrounded by white limestone rocks and dense green vegetation, all the way down towards the sea!
Hotel in Cala Gonone.
Day 10. Departure or extended holiday.
Transfers will be arranged depending on your flight times. Cala Gonone is the right spot for a multiactivity holiday: it is a small town pressed between high mountains and the sea, surrounded by sea-cliffs and superb limestone crags. It has become Sardinian climbing sanctuary for the sheer number of climbing areas and the outstanding quality of the rock. With mountains and sea, you can also practice many other activities: sea kayaking, hiking… or just swimming and lying on a fantastic beach!
There are 50 km of wild and uncontaminated limestone cliffs. It is the spot of the famous Selvaggio Blu, one of the most challenging hiking routes in Europe. Whichever way you prefer to extend your active holiday, we will be happy to satisfy your wishes and glad to accompany you.
