A 7 Days Mountain Bike Tour on the South West Coast of Sardinia.
We present the Rocks and Waves MTB Tour to discover the Green Coast, along the South West coast of Sardinia Island. This area is so called to its very prosperous lentiscus, broom, strawberry tree, juniper vegetation, which runs down from the mountains, crossing valleys and sandbanks towards the sea.
Sparsely inhabited with long golden sandy beaches, an emerald blue sea and stunning mountains, it is the perfect setting for a superb Mountain Bike holiday in Italy and have now become Sardinia’s most prestigious MTB destination! Amongst the stunning Mediterranean scenery, we’ll ride wooded trails, remote mountain passes and thrilling singletracks to come across old and fascinating mining villages, up to the rugged profile of the coast. There picturesque fishing villages will be our base to experience traditional cuisine and wine at its delicious best after a day of fun in the saddle. And don’t forget to pack your swimwear!

Tour Description Day by Day.
Day 1. Arrival at Cagliari.
On your arrival at Cagliari airport you will be met by the Wild Trails team and transferred to your accommodation.
It’s a fascinatin residence immersed in a luxuriant vegetation between the most famous sandy dunes of Piscinas and the old mining of Ingurtosu and Naracauli. Here you will have the chance to relax with a drink in your hand and learn all about your week of mountain biking, before the savoury first dinner of our trip.

Day 2. Old mines and dunes.
Distance: 40 km • Total ascent: 820 m
Our initial day’s riding will take us to discover the mining area of Montevecchio, weaving in and out of ghost villages with their scattered mining relics, enjoying stunning views of mountains covered in lush multi-color vegetation. We’ll start with an undulating section by the coastline to warm up our legs before the first uphill climb up on the ridge, on a hard terrain that will prove your tecnique. Reached the top of the hill, we’ll take a segment on tarmac to meet the van for a short restoring break. We’ll plunge ourself into the mediterranean bush on a nice off-road trail, the191, up to the mining village of Montevecchio, one of the eight sites of the Parco Geominerario of Sardegna. After a good lunch we’ll leave the village to gain the coast through some nice single tracks.
We’ll be back to our hotel in time to enjoy the sunset on the marvellous beach of Piscinas. Europe’s biggest natural desert, the dunes of Piscinas can reach 60 mt high and are one of the remaining uncontaminated areas of Sardinia.

Day 3. Ingurtosu and Naracauli single track.
Distance : 35 km • Total ascent: 900 m
Yesterday we had just a first look on the Green Coast, we are sure you would like explore more. Fortunately, there is more to see, more trails to ride and beautiful landscapes. We will climb the mountains following the valley of Piscinas river, to connect the last part of yesterday ride, along the 191 path.
From Montevecchio village we go towards another mining village, Igurtosu. We have different otpinion to reach it, and we can make a decision together according your wishes. What is not possible to miss is the down hill on the mining debris, and the single track along the Naracauli river, bringing us straight to Piscinas sand dunes.
The distance today is a bit longer, but with easier terrain and smoother trails. We retrace our steps up to the forest of Funtanabona, until we reach the slopes of the Monte Fumai, a spectacular limestone formation, placed on top of a steep hill. We continue our journey on a mule track up and down with a few challenging sections and some technical descent. From the valley we start a long climb to conquer the top: Sa Pranedda, 1300 meters above sea level, it offers us a truly magnificent landscape. Now we have the long and very fast descent that takes us into the magical valley of Fennau. Usually, on this side of the mountain you can spot the mouflon. We cross the valley to its entire length in the easy climb, till 1000 mt asl. 8 km of single tracks, slightly downhill along the Flumineddu valley. Rich dinner of ogliastrine specialties topped with the excellent local wine. The profile shows the hard op option with Monte Olinie climb.

Day 4. From Piscinas to Fighezia.
Distance: 35 km • Total ascent: 1000 m
Easy option • Distance: 20 km • Total ascent: 850 m
After our morning briefing, we’ll leave to head south for the mining village of Ingurtosu, old directional center of the mining area. We’ll cross a Far-West like territory, where the sounds of the old railway stiil echoes in the valley.
After 2 km on tarmac, we’ll take the intersection with the panoramic road on the side of the hill offering many vantage points to enjoy wonderful views of Piscinas and Scivu, another jewel amongst the many beautiful beaches in Sardinia. The road will slightly climb back up to the asphalt road leading up to a meeting with the support van for a short break.
We’ll carry on climbing on a more tricky terrain, a steep rocky trail, then a number of ups and downs will lead us up to the valley of Sibiri, where our staff will have arranged for us a lovely picnic.
After lunch, the afternoon is dedicated to reach after a 7 km climb the top of the mountain that separate us from the south side of the Coast. The descent is pure fun and lead us to the village of Fluminimaggiore where a well deserved fresh beer will wait for us.
Tired but gratified we’ll cover the last 5 km to reach our new accommodation in Fighezia, a farmhouse built on the side of a hill that will host us for the next days with its charming and familiar atmosphere and its breathtaking view.
If you prefer you can take the shortcat to avoid the big climb of the day and reach the next accommodation riding closer to the coast.

Day 5. Double loop of Quaddu Murru and Capo Pecora.
Morning ride: Distance: 31 km • Total ascent: 880 m
Afternoon ride: Distance: 20 km • Total ascent: 550 m
After an energizing breakfast and the daily briefing, we’ll jump up our bikes to start today double loop.
The first part of the morning will bring us along the wonderful Golfo del Leone to the fishing hamlet of Buggerru, where an home-made ice cream shop will provide us sweet fuel for the following ride. Time to climb! A panoramic road on tar will show us oneof the most beautiful view of the island, the south corner of the Green Coast. We’ll leave the main road to take a gravel path, a long but gentle climb to reach the peak, where we’ll set some time a side to rest the legs and take some pictures. From here, the first section of the descent along the ridge of the mountain is wonderful and without difficulties. After a few kilometers we embark on the steepest part, a series of tight switchbacks that willtest your riding skills and your brakes. We go back to the accommodation for lunch.
Once refreshed and rested, the most braves are ready for the stunning coastal loop of Capo Pecora, with it’s bizarre rock formations. The downhill single track after the first part is very demanding, with rocks and stones, which will need your full attention, studying carefully your line and body weight.

Day 6. Cala Domestica and Gutturu Cardaxiu.
Distance: 42 km • Total ascent: 1000 m
Our last day on the bikes in Sardinia and a great way to finish off! We’ll leave Fighezia to head for the coastal village of Buggerru, former mining center now converted to a turistic port. From there we’ll follow the disused railway line where time ago a steam train run full of lead, zinc and silver. We’ll ride on a gravel road up to the fascinating abandoned village of Pranu Sartu. There you can still see the ruins of the old warehouses, last stop before embarking the precious minerals.
A plane and technical singletrack will give us a lot of fun and prepare us to the wonderful view of Cala Domestica, a hidden cove surrounded by white calcareous cliffs. Time to show your swimsuit off! You wouldn’t want to leave these crystal clear waters.
After this unforgettable experience we’ll start again to ride across the valley of Gutturu Cardaxiu. From there we’ll climb up to another abandoned mining village and after a sequence of ups and downs we’ll get to the top of the plateau.

Day 7. Departure.
